PRIMARY
PROGRAMS
Therapeutic
Riding
Challenge Unlimited uses horses, riding, and the environment of the working
farm as educational and therapeutic tools to help people with disabilities.
Licensed instructors design programs that encourage self-confidence and
contribute to improved physical condition. Riding horses makes therapy
an experience
that is both challenging and fun.

Recreational
Riding
At Ironstone Farm, recreational riding has
been a popular activity for people of all ages for more than 40 years.
Participants learn from the ground up how to care for, communicate
with and ride horses in a safe and encouraging environment. Small horse
shows are held where the fun is stressed and the stress is
removed, helping riders build a solid foundation in a sport that can become
a life-long pleasure.

Medically Based Therapies
In 1998 Challenge Unlimited launched a subsidiary organization called
Ironstone Therapy under which licensed
physical and occupational therapists and speech/language pathologists
provide services based on physician prescription. For more information

Peanuts
on Ponies
Peanuts on Ponies is a community playgroup. Children under seven work
together with a parent or guardian in a group setting to participate in
learning activities using real ponies.
Summer
Camp
Summer Camp is offered from June through August in separate morning and
afternoon sessions to children and teens of all abilities. Camp provides
a variety of horse and farm-related activities in a wholesome environment
that creates lasting friendships and a solid foundation in horsemanship.
Volunteer
Program
Volunteering plays an important role in successful program delivery. More
than 150 teens and adults give their time each week, year round. They
assist therapists and instructors by grooming and handling horses or by
walking beside riders who require support. No previous experience is needed.
Weekly training workshops are offered. Volunteering combines great exercise
in a fun environment with the added therapy of helping others.
Instructor
Apprentice Program
All of Challenge Unlimiteds instructors must be licensed by the
Massachusetts Department of Agriculture and complete the Instructor Apprentice
Program at Ironstone Farm. The program teaches specifics of teaching horsemanship
in the educational and therapeutic environment of Ironstone while educating
students in the requirements of the state licensing program. Application
for the Apprentice Program is open to anyone interested in pursuing a
career in the equine industry or in therapeutic riding.
