PRIMARY
PROGRAMS
Peanuts on Ponies
Peanuts on Ponies is a community playgroup. Children under seven work
together with a parent or guardian in a group setting to participate in
learning activities using real ponies.
Summer
Camp
Summer Camp is offered from June through August in separate morning and
afternoon sessions to children and teens of all abilities. Camp provides
a variety of horse and farm-related activities in a wholesome environment
that creates lasting friendships and a solid foundation in horsemanship.
Volunteer
Program
Volunteering plays an important role in successful program delivery. More
than 150 teens and adults give their time each week, year round. They
assist therapists and instructors by grooming and handling horses or by
walking beside riders who require support. No previous experience is needed.
Bi-weekly training workshops are offered. Volunteering combines great exercise
in a fun environment with the added “therapy” of helping others.
Working
Student Program
Challenge Unlimited gives teens an opportunity to earn riding lessons
and riding time. Teens learn how to care for the animals, assist therapists
and instructors, and pitch in with farm chores in a supportive team environment.
Since its beginning, hundreds of teens have participated in the Working
Student Program, and many have chosen related careers as a result of their
experience. The Working Student Program also extends to adults who want
to learn more about horse care, and/or earn riding lessons for themselves
or their children.

Instructor
Apprentice Program
All of Challenge Unlimited’s instructors must be licensed by the
Massachusetts Department of Agriculture and complete the Instructor Apprentice
Program at Ironstone Farm. The program teaches specifics of teaching horsemanship
in the educational and therapeutic environment of Ironstone while educating
students in the requirements of the state licensing program. Application
for the Apprentice Program is open to anyone interested in pursuing a
career in the equine industry or in therapeutic riding.
